Altar Guild Member:
The Altar Guild is comprised of men and women who are responsible for:
a. Caring for the worship space, its furnishings, linens, paraments and appointments,
b. Preparing the worship space for the services of the church and c. Caring for Vestments.
Order of St. John Servers: (8th through 12th grade) (See Youth Page)
Pastoral Deacon:
Deliver flowers to shut-ins or hospital patients following the Sunday worship service.
Assisting Minister:
Assist the Pastor at church services reading prayers and helping with distribution of communion.
Usher at Services of Worship:
a. Greet and assist in seating worship attendees.
b. Distribute bulletins if greeter is not present.
c. Participate in the service as a worshiper.
d. Collect the offering and take it to the altar during the offertory. Encourage reverence and order before and during the service.
f. Assist with lighting, ventilation, etc., when needed.
g. Record worship attendance.
h. Know location of emergency first aid kit.
i. Communion Ushers: separate team of ushers to release rows of people, distribute and collect communion glasses.
Usher for special services:
Afternoon or evening services such as Christmas Eve, Holy Week etc.
Greeter:
Stand in the Gathering Room and hand out bulletins and greet the worshipers. Identify guests and have them sign the guest register book and make them feel welcome. Stand with the pastor after service. Training is provided.
Lector
Read the Lessons at our Sunday worship services, generally one or two times a year.
Sound System Operator:
The Sound System Operator handles amplifiers in the sanctuary during all Worship Services and music events. Technical skills are not required. Training is provided.
Sacramental Deacon:
Sacramental Deacons are asked to serve a three-year term. They assist with the services of Holy Communion. They bring the sacraments forward during the offertory and pour the communion wine for the members communing. A training session is required.
Nursery Attendant, 10:45 Service:
Serves in the Nursery about once every 6 weeks during the 10:45 Service. The children range from a few weeks of age to age 5. During this time a member of our staff is also present with you.
Volunteer at Ecumenical Food Bank:
Our church takes its turn from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., the second Friday of the month. A good community program.
Blood Donor:
When you go to the Miller Memorial Blood Center make sure that St. John's is given the credit. (Minimum age is l7)
Provide Transportation to Church:
Assist those members who wish to attend our services and are unable to due to lack of transportation or handicap.
OFFICE SUPPORT
Assist with Mailings: Monthly, usually the last Wednesday of each month, 9 a.m. - noon. Join other members of St. John's in collating the monthly newsletter and an occasional congregational mailing.
Volunteers - Weekly, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-12 Noon-or Noon to 2:30 pm Record communion records, stuff envelopes, assist with daily office routine. Training is provided.
Emergency Office Volunteer:
Be available in case of emergencies to collate bulletins for holidays, etc. and perform other duties..
Collate and prepare Church bulletins each Friday, from 9 am til 10:30 am.
Property Committee Member:
One meeting per month and may involve providing leadership for periodic "work parties". Additional volunteers are recruited from the congregation to volunteer for this critically needed ministry. The committee maintains, improves and modifies the church's physical plant and grounds.
Fall/Spring Cleaning Volunteer: You will be called as needed.
Clean/Polish Church Woodwork:
Once a year, our Property Committee undertakes the monumental task of cleaning and polishing the pews and all other woodwork in the church.
